Women’s loafers: what to wear them with, photos

Hello everyone! This is Anna Chekunova, a stylist and shopper in Italy, and today I will tell you what to wear with women’s loafers – comfortable and practical shoes for the summer and off-season.

Today, women’s loafers are fashionable, and in the past – the shoes of port sailors!

The history of loafers. What do they represent today? How to wear loafers and what to combine them with?

To the great happiness of the buyer, the tassels on the toes that are typical for loafers are a thing of the past. Previously, such loafers were worn by port sailors. Now this footwear has undergone a number of serious changes, and modern fashionistas can wear new stylish models without embarrassment.

Loafers, or loafers (loafer) – a derivative of the English word, which is translated into Russian as “slacker, lazy”. Such shoes are extremely comfortable, which is why they were previously perceived as a convenient solution only in old ladies’ wardrobes. They are easy to put on, and you don’t have to rack your brains over how to successfully put together an outfit.

What do loafers look like

Loafers might seem like a cross between slip-ons and moccasins, if not for their characteristic features: protruding sole and chunky heel.

Penny loafers

Penny loafers came to us from the distant 30s and owe their name to the features of the cut. The shoes had a strip of leather with a cutout, where it was customary to insert a penny coin for good luck. Initially, they were part of an everyday wardrobe, but a little later, the famous fashion designer Guccio Gucci turned his attention to them. He added metal buckles to the design and gave the loafers solidity and respectability, so even serious businessmen began to wear them, combining them with formal suits. This look is also appropriate in a woman’s wardrobe.

The popularity of loafers grew exponentially, and eventually such shoes reached extravagant fashionistas, who, with a light hand (or foot) of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, plucked up courage and began to wear loafers on par with men. Loafers can be worn with both trousers and a skirt.

Such combinations are still relevant today.

It is traditionally believed that it is important to adhere to the rule of Bernhard Roetzel, who claimed that loafers can be worn either on a bare foot or with a solid long sock that does not reveal a piece of the wearer’s skin when the knee is bent. It is also traditionally believed that loafers should not be worn with colored socks, no socks with prints – you should choose regular dark or white socks, which Michael Jackson once loved so much.

However… Modern fashion does not tolerate boredom, and even short polka-dot socks can look stylish.

Loafers are versatile shoes that can be used in many styles. You can wear loafers for a regular walk in the park or to work in the office. The main thing is not to be afraid of the style, but to experiment boldly to look stylish and feel comfortable.
