If you make your purchases at Europe Tax Free Shopping outlets, you can get a VAT refund on personal goods (but only if you export them new).

How does it work? When making a purchase, ask the seller to fill out the “Tax Free” form. When leaving the country, go to the customs service at the airport, presenting the purchased goods, the Tax Free coupon and the payment receipt. At customs, you will get a stamp, after which you will need to find a Tax Free Cash Refund point (usually located near Duty Free stowres) and get your money back.
